The U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology & Research Centre (UNMICRC) is a grant–in–aid "autonomous body" promoted by the Government of Gujarat. The Institute is affiliated to the BJ Medical College, Civil Hospital Campus, Asarwa, Ahmedabad, which is a Government Medical College for academic purposes. Institute is governed by Governing Board where Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, is Ex-officio Chairperson of the Governing Board of UNMICRC.

Emergency Medical Cardiac Services (EMCS)

The Institute is running the unique EMCS (Emergency Medical Cardiac Services) scheme (Since 2006) where any patient admitted to cardiac ICU for a cardiac treatment will be provided immediate ‘life saving cardiac treatment’ without any advance payment for initial 24 hours, which covers First golden hour of cardiac treatment like acute myocardial infarction in which Primary Angioplasty with stenting in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI)/ Thrombolysis is very effective, if considered within 3-4 hours of acute heart attack. Donation for this scheme comes from various donors
