U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre (UNMICRC) is an Emergency Related Cardiac Super specialty Hospital having 12 seats of M.Ch. (Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery) Super specialty course in affiliation with B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, under Gujarat University. All seats are filled on merit base through NEET SS without any donation.

Admission Process

• There shall be a common counselling for admission to all Super specialty Postgraduate Courses (DM/M.Ch.) in all Medical Educational Institutions on the basis of merit list of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Superspeciality. The designated authority for counselling for all the seats of the contributing States shall be conducted by the Directorate General of Health Services, Government of India.

Summary of Syllabus of M.Ch. Cardio Vascular Thoracic Surgery

• Duration of the course: 36 months (03 academic years)

• A candidate at the end of the training period must have aquired:
  • Capabiity in conducting cardiopulmonary bypass;
  • Competence in the intensive care management of patients with cardiac, vascular and thoracic surgical problems; and
  • Confidence in the operating room by performing under supervision as well as indepnedently. It would be desirable that a minimum number of operations as stipulated here under be performed by the trainee during his training period before final examination:

• Academic Activities
  • Case presentation: Twice in a week
  • Journal Club: Once weekly
  • Seminar: Once weekly
  • Cath & Surgical Presentation: Once weekly
  • Clinical Pathological conference / Death Review meeting: Once a month
  • Lectures (separately held for postgraduate students) - Guest or Faculty lecturers/CMEs: Once in a Month
  • Integrated teaching: every Saturday (discussion of complex cases in presence of senior faculties of Cardiology, Cardiac Anesthesia and CVTS department)
• Internal Examination is taken at the interval of six months to Prepare Residents for Final Exam. Before final examination.
