History

1982:-

  • Department of Cardiology of Civil Hospital is upgraded to ‘Institute of Cardiology’ at Civil Hospital.

 

1992:-

  • Grant-in-aid institute promoted by Government of Gujarat as a public trust vide Government resolution.
  • Status of Autonomous Institute was given and identified as ‘Institute of Cardiology and Research Center’.
  • The Institute is affiliated to B. J. Medical College, Civil Hospital , Asarwa, Ahmedabad, which is a Government Medical College, under Gujarat University.

1996:-

  • Institute was shifted to new building and named as U. N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center (UNMICRC) by the Government of Gujarat and donation was given by U.N.Mehta Charitable Trust for the Institute.

2010:-

  • Expansion and up-gradation of the Institute with ‘State of Art’ Infrastructurewith increase in:
    • Bed strength from 200 to 450.
    • Cardiac Catheterization Labs from 2 to 4 (Including Hybrid Cardiac Cath Lab with Cardiac OT).
    • Cardiac Operation Theaters from 3 to 5.
    • ‘State of the Art’ Library and Academic wing on the 4th floor of the new building with all teaching facilities required for super specialty students.

2012:-

  • Government of Gujarat sanctioned 95 Crores for Phase II New Construction project in a view of tremendous increase in the pattern of the work load of last two years.
  • The institute has also been entrusted by the Government of Gujarat to run various patient benevolent free cardiac treatment schemes (expected increase in work load in future).

  

2014 – 2015:-

  • New construction at the institute as Phase II New construction of hospital block.
  • Building I and Building II with connected bridge between Building I & II (Green house building with GRIHA III Star Rating)
  • New construction of Hostel Block
  •  Phase II New Construction project includes:
    • New Green Building Concept (GRIHA III Star rating) which increases the bed strength capacity from 450 to 1000 beds (Approx.) 
    • Cardiac Operation Theatres from 5 to 12 (including Pediatric, Neonatal, Robotic and Heart Transplantation OT)
    • Cardiac Catheterization Lab from 4 to 6
    • Hostel Building (138 quarters for super speciality resident doctors)
